  概念解释:当有不定量的东西或人时,我们说了一个,再说一个,那么,这“再一个”就用another;但当总共就两个,或分成两部分时,我们说了一个或一部分,再说另一个或另一部分,就用the other;other与名词连用时,表示复数概念的“另外一些”,与another表示单数概念的“另外一个”形成单数和复数上的区别。

  Compromise(妥协)
  Mr. Edwards and Mr. Wilson were friends. They were sitting in a train when another man came in. There was going to be an election(选举) soon, and Mr. Edwards and Mr. Wilson began talking about politics(政治). Mr. Edwards supported(支持) the Labour Party(工党) strongly(强烈地).
  Suddenly the third man began to argue with(与。。。争论) Mr. Edwards. He supported the Conservatives(保守党).
  They argued for a long time, and then Mr. Edwards said, "Well, I can’t make you change your mind and you can’t make me change mine either, so let’s have an agreement(协议,认同): I won’t vote for(为。。。投票) the Labour Party and you won’t vote for the Conservative Party. Then we’ll be able to stay at home comfortably(舒服地) and nobody will lose anything." The other man agreed.
